New Boundary Technologies Launches First Cloud-Based Service For Analyzing Storage Tank Data

TankVista Delivers Off-The-Shelf Solution for monitoring Commercial Storage Tank Data, Just-In-Time Inventories In Real-Time Via The Web

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 8, 2009New Boundary Technologies® today launched TankVista™, the first cloud-based service for continuously monitoring and analyzing the conditions and storage levels of commercial storage tanks, bins, silos and other containers.

Specifically, TankVista takes raw data - such as tank level, temperature, pressure, humidity and other storage criteria - captured from tank sensors and translates it into actionable information, graphics and maps that agri-business, petroleum, restaurant and a host of other industries can use to drive new efficiencies in storage tank management and overall business operations.

TankVista’s open architecture integrates seamlessly with industry-leading iDigi™ Tank from Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII). The iDigi Tank solution delivers the needed hardware, hosted software and services to wirelessly connect remote tank assets and upload raw tank data into the cloud without requiring onsite Internet access.

“The vast majority of commercial storage tanks go unmonitored and require manual processes to verify conditions, remediate issues or request tank servicing,” said Kim Pearson, chief executive officer of New Boundary Technologies. “For organizations with just-in-time inventory operations, sending staff out to collect this information limits business efficiency and profitability. TankVista delivers an off-the-shelf solution that eliminates numerous and manual processes without needing to create custom software applications to translate raw tank data into information that’s timely and useful.”

For example, a bulk oil distributor can leverage TankVista to remotely and continuously monitor its own storage tanks as well as those of its clients - such as a rapid oil-change facility - knowing exactly when and where to replenish its own supplies, as well as that of its customers. Instead of re-filling tanks at about 50 percent capacity, the bulk oil distributor can wait until usage levels dictate more efficient re-filling, closer to 15 or 20 percent capacity. With TankVista, all this monitoring can be done without manual intervention.

“TankVista is the perfect complement to iDigi Tank,” said Larry Kraft, senior vice president of global sales and marketing for Digi International. “iDigi Tank has the unique ability to wirelessly connect dispersed and remote tank assets, and get this information through our drop-in wireless mesh technology to the cloud without requiring onsite Internet access. From there, TankVista’s Web-based solution can translate volumes and volumes of raw tank data in real-time, and present this information from any Web browser in a way that’s accessible and informative. Businesses with tank-related operations instantly get smarter when they deploy iDigi Tank and TankVista together.”

Additional TankVista Features

  • Rich Internet Application (RIA) Web management console delivers intuitive, easy-to-use interface.
  • Web-based service allows access from any computer with an Internet connection.
  • Built-in mapping feature shows tank locations and conditions to streamline tank servicing.
  • Hosted service eliminates need to install/maintain software or custom applications.
  • Automatic email/cell phone alerts when tank conditions meet user-defined thresholds and require servicing.
  • Advanced reporting maintains tank condition history for operational analysis and regulatory compliance.
  • End-to-end encryption and authentication technologies ensure data security.

New Boundary Technologies today also launched FleetVista. FleetVista allows organizations to remotely monitor and manage the location and service routes for entire vehicle fleets - any time, from any Web browser. Companies simply download a small piece of software to each driver’s company smart phone that ensures route efficiency and, in turn, better customer service. Combining FleetVista with TankVista presents organizations unprecedented insight and control over operational processes based on specific tank conditions and requirements.

For example, “TankVista will instantly alert an administrator that a remote tank is in need of delivery or maintenance; FleetVista can then identify and dispatch the closest driver or most qualified technician to make the delivery or repair. Both processes happen without manual intervention, saving organizations considerable time and money, especially if any problems or issues can be resolved before they escalate,” said Pearson.
